Agnese Bianchi, RN, BScN, MN, Project Manager
UHN Nursing is pleased to welcome Dr. Kathryn Nichol to the UHN Nursing team in the role of Director of Nursing, New Knowledge and Innovation.
Kathryn graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1989 and a Master of Health Science – Occupational Hygiene in 1996. She completed her PhD studies in 2010 from the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto. Her dissertation explored the determinants of nurses’ adherence to recommended use of facial protective equipment to prevent occupational transmission of communicable respiratory illness in acute care hospitals.
Kathryn has enjoyed a varied and exciting career in Nursing. Clinically she has practiced as a nurse at the point of care in labour and delivery. She has also worked at the Public Services Health and Safety Association, where she was responsible for research and evaluation, to the Ministry of Labour as a Senior Policy Advisor. Currently, she is also an Assistant Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Kathryn has a strong background in interprofessional collaboration, and so will be exploring new and exciting ways to not only support nursing research at UHN, but to engage and integrate with other researchers from across various professions and health disciplines.
Kathryn’s focus on enhancing the health, safety, and wellness of nurses and health professionals is a beautiful fit within UHN’s corporate Nursing portfolio. As we know excellent patient centred care arises out of safe and healthy practice environments that support, encourage and consistently engage staff.
Welcome Kathryn to UHN!
Glad to see a strong focus on health and safety. Quality care is so important for the patient and their family.
